Megan Murphy is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sea Centric, a Canadian marine company dedicated to strengthening Canada’s marine capability through integrated operations, strategic infrastructure, and long-term industry development.
A veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and a proud Newfoundlander and Labradorian, Megan has built her career across commercial fisheries, marine operations, ocean technology, scientific research, Indigenous partnerships, and business development. Working across these sectors gave her a unique perspective on Canada’s marine industry and revealed a recurring challenge: complex marine projects were often supported by multiple disconnected providers, creating unnecessary complexity, fragmented accountability, and operational risk.
She founded Sea Centric with a different vision—one where vessels, people, infrastructure, technology, and operational expertise work together through a single trusted partner. By integrating these capabilities into one coordinated organization, Sea Centric simplifies complex marine operations while helping strengthen Canada’s domestic marine capability.
Under Megan’s leadership, the company has grown beyond a traditional marine services provider into an integrated marine capability company supporting governments, industry, researchers, Indigenous partners, and offshore operators across Canada’s marine sector. From marine operations and fleet management to industrial services, ocean intelligence, and strategic partnerships, Sea Centric is building the capacity needed to support Canada’s future on the water.
Megan believes Canada’s future as a global maritime nation will be defined by the capability it builds—its vessels, infrastructure, workforce, technology, and partnerships. Through Sea Centric, she is committed to expanding Canada’s commercial marine fleet, strengthening marine industrial capacity, advancing ocean science and technology, supporting offshore and Arctic operations, fostering meaningful Indigenous partnerships, and developing the next generation of marine professionals.
Her leadership is guided by a simple philosophy: lasting success is not measured by the projects a company completes, but by the capability it leaves behind. Every investment Sea Centric makes in people, infrastructure, technology, and partnerships is intended to strengthen Canada’s marine industry for generations to come.
Rex Simmonds is the Co-Founder of Sea Centric, bringing more than four decades of experience on the waters of Newfoundland and Labrador. Raised in St. Anthony, in a family of professional mariners, Rex developed his passion for the sea at an early age, working alongside his father, who spent more than 23 years as a coastal captain navigating the province’s coastline. At just 15 years old, he began working in the family fishing business, beginning a lifelong career dedicated to Canada’s marine industry.
By the age of 20, Rex had earned his Fishing Master II certification from the Marine Institute and went on to establish and operate his own commercial fishing enterprise in 1990. Throughout his career, he became widely recognized for his innovation, pioneering harvesting techniques for smaller vessels in fisheries traditionally served by larger fleets. His work earned him the 1998 Innovator of the Year award and recognition as the first fisherman in Canada to receive a processing-at-sea license for an inshore vessel.
Committed to continuous learning, Rex continued to expand his professional qualifications throughout his career by earning his Fishing Master I, Watchkeeping Mate, and Master 500 Gross Tonnage certifications. He also served on the Marine Institute’s Industry Advisory Board, contributing decades of practical experience to help strengthen Newfoundland and Labrador’s marine sector.
In 2012, Rex founded RS Marine Ltd., building a family-owned marine business that expanded its commercial fishing roots into commercial, scientific, and offshore marine operations. Under his leadership, the M/V Patrick and William evolved into a multi-purpose research and support vessel equipped with advanced oceanographic technology, demonstrating how traditional seamanship and innovation can work together to meet the changing needs of Canada’s marine industry.
Today, alongside his daughter and fellow Co-Founder, Megan Murphy, Rex has helped carry that family’s legacy into Sea Centric. Together, they have combined generations of practical maritime experience with a forward-looking vision to build a company dedicated to strengthening Canada’s marine capability. Their partnership reflects a shared belief that the future of Canada’s marine industry will be built by investing in people, vessels, infrastructure, and the knowledge passed from one generation of mariners to the next.
Renée Winter is President & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sea Centric, where she is responsible for leading the company’s operations, organizational strategy, and corporate growth. Working alongside the executive leadership team, she oversees the systems, people, and operational excellence required to support Sea Centric’s rapid expansion across Canada’s ocean sector.
Renée brings extensive executive leadership experience from the global energy industry, where she spent more than two decades leading organizational transformation, international operations, workforce strategy, and business integration across multiple continents. Her career has been built in complex, high-growth organizations where operational performance depends on strong leadership, disciplined execution, and exceptional people.
At Sea Centric, Renée is focused on building a scalable organization capable of supporting long-term growth. Her leadership spans operations, corporate governance, organizational design, strategic planning, human resources, commercial functions, and leadership development, ensuring the company has the structure, talent, and operational discipline to execute its ambitious vision.

Darryl Waterman is the Senior Director of Operations at Sea Centric, where he is responsible for leading the company’s operational performance, fleet readiness, and execution strategy. With more than three decades of leadership experience in the global energy industry, Darryl brings a proven track record of delivering safe, efficient, and reliable operations in complex, fast-paced environments.
Recognized for his practical leadership style and operational expertise, Darryl has extensive experience managing multidisciplinary teams, optimizing assets, and implementing systems that drive performance, accountability, and continuous improvement. His ability to align people, processes, and resources enables Sea Centric to consistently deliver high-quality solutions for clients across the marine, offshore, and industrial sectors.
At Sea Centric, Darryl is focused on strengthening the operational framework that supports the company’s continued growth. He is leading initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, improve scalability, and reinforce a culture built on safety, collaboration, and excellence. As the company expands its fleet and service offerings, Darryl plays a key role in ensuring Sea Centric is well positioned to meet the evolving needs of its clients while maintaining the highest standards of operational execution.

Ashley Maher is the Director of Health, Safety, Environment, Quality & Compliance at Sea Centric, where she leads the development and implementation of the company’s integrated management systems, regulatory compliance programs, and operational safety strategy across the company’s diverse operations.
With nearly 20 years of experience supporting complex, high-risk operations across the energy sector, Ashley has developed a broad operational background that enables her to align operational objectives with safety, compliance, and organizational performance. Her experience includes construction, subsea, drilling, emergency preparedness, contractor management, quality management and organizational safety leadership. Throughout her career, she has worked alongside multidisciplinary teams to improve operational performance while ensuring people, assets, and the environment remain protected.
Ashley believes that effective HSEQ is achieved by creating practical systems that support the people who use them. She is passionate about building management systems that are not only compliant with regulatory and client requirements, but are also intuitive, efficient, and embedded into everyday operations. Her leadership focuses on fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and a culture where every employee understands their role in managing risk and operating safely.
At Sea Centric, Ashley is leading the development of the company’s Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Compliance framework to support expanding marine, industrial, and oil and gas sectors. Her work includes implementing modern safety management systems, strengthening governance and assurance processes, advancing workforce competency programs, and ensuring the organization is well positioned to meet the evolving expectations of clients, regulators, and industry partners.
Ashley is a Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) and is committed to continually advancing operational excellence through leadership, collaboration, and practical risk management.
Juan Burton is the Director of IT & Systems Management at Sea Centric Inc., where he leads the company’s technology, cybersecurity, and digital transformation initiatives. With more than 27 years of experience in information technology, Juan has built his career designing secure, reliable, and resilient technology solutions for organizations operating in complex and mission-critical environments.
Before joining Sea Centric, Juan held senior technology and cybersecurity positions within the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, PAL Aerospace, and the managed services industry. His experience spans government, aerospace, and private enterprise, where he has helped organizations strengthen their cybersecurity posture, modernize infrastructure, and protect critical business operations.
At Sea Centric, Juan is responsible for developing and executing the company’s IT strategy, ensuring technology supports both corporate operations and vessel-based missions. He is leading the modernization of Sea Centric’s infrastructure, cybersecurity program, cloud services, communications, and operational technologies while aligning the organization with Government of Canada cybersecurity expectations and internationally recognized security frameworks.
His expertise includes cybersecurity, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft 365, enterprise networking, infrastructure architecture, data protection, identity and access management, and regulatory compliance. He is currently leading Sea Centric’s cybersecurity roadmap through frameworks such as the Canadian Program for Cyber Security Certification (CPCSC)Level 1&2, NIST, and FIPS 140-3, helping position the company for future government and defence opportunities.
Juan holds the Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) designation and believes technology should do more than simply work—it should enable people to perform at their best while protecting the systems and information organizations depend on every day. He enjoys building practical solutions that balance security, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Outside the office, Juan enjoys spending time with his family, tackling home improvement projects, barbecuing, and smoking meats, and exploring the outdoors throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
